Coconut Skins

After shaking the image of my shaking it up on the dance floor I thought I would take some time to update the blog for the Mondays.

Jack (V.O.)
I became the calm, little center of
the world. I was the Zen master.
                              "Worker bees can leave
Even drones can fly away
The queen is their slave"

I wrote little haiku poems.

I want to continue sharing some photographs that had me stop and just stare. Later on today I will post some of my photographs.

currently listening to: Damien Rice - Coconut Skins

PoStEDit

Hey everyone,

Many apologies for the delay. Got caught up late in the ol' PRS office. Damn ghost got loose again. Books were thrown all over the place. All in all, a regular day at the office.

enjoy the photos...night folks

Can't wait to see some of your photos later. Damien Rice is interesting. Sounds a lot like Dylan. Pretty good though. Have a good Monday.

umm... Sergey, i like your musical taste! Damien Rice is sweet! love the pictures too, but I'm looking forward to some of yours hopefully coming soon! ;)

ps- what are some of your other favorite musical artists right now?

Can't wait to see your pictures!

hahaha awesome.

"I am Jack's colon. I get cancer, I kill Jack."

That's one of my favorite movies ever. And I'm a screenwriter, so I'm glad to see you posted it in screenplay format. ;D lol

Yeah, you do seem to have great taste in music. If you appreciate Tool, which is one of my favorite bands and lyrical/artistic influences... then you have to be awesome.

Those pictures really capture a lot of emotion. Good job. :)

I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all those French beaches I'd never see. I wanted to breathe smoke.

Tyler Durden
Where'd you go, psycho boy?

Jack (v.o.)
I felt like destroying something beautiful.

Nehara Seraphine said...

Oh, I can read... lol Those pics were just ones you liked.
I'm looking forward to seeing some more from you, then. :) Maybe some that really catch people at their most vulnerable and naked. (not literally naked... you know what I mean.)

Hey!
Cannot wait to see your photos :) :)

checked out Damien Rice, he wounds wicked cool. He kind of has a Dylan-esque sound to it.

Have fun! :)

Interesting photos! I'm looking forward to seeing more of yours later, though.

Where are your pics Mr. Serg? Did you have fun dancing? :-) Also...still waiting for the WA Field Trip group photo. Thought you were going to put that up on the website? Anywho, I am curious to what kind of summer reading you are doing. Have you read Dan Brown's "Deception Point"? I have just started it, and so far it is pretty good.

To me, these two photos are just so amazing. I don't know if it has something to do with the fact that I am a woman or my beliefs, but I just think these photos are amazing.

Sorry for the delay folks. Hopefully the WA photo will be up this week. Read, Deception Point, but I thought Angels and Demons was better.

Joker, those are quite something. Not exactly stress relieving photographs.

sergey, your photos are fantastic.. they all just tell such a story with no words, so cool!

thanks for sharing!

the photo of the wet side walk is great,.
i had to look at it very close to see what it was, at first it didn't dawn on me, until i saw the lines of the side walk..
way cool..

i do have a question, why wasn't the tree upside down, in the water surface??

cindy said...

omgosh..
i know that i should have looked at all the photos before posting a comment, but
the one of the old man satting on the pole thing is creepy..
its like his lower face, his jaw area match the lower part of the building..

and the photo with the guy reading the book with the sign..
i found myself looking more closely at the gate and window than the guy..
if you look closely at the gate and window, you see a building that seem to be behind the gate..
cool, just wish the guy wasn't in the way..

Hey!
Awesome photographs! :) I cannot say which is my favorite, because all of them are really good. :)

Hey Sergey, I love the color in all those pics!!!! -I think we would like some photos of you on the dance floor though- ;-)
Also, I had never heard of Damien Rice till this past weekend at the AGH Iowa Bash....Brian (Chad's brother) played Rootless Tree and I was blown away....checked out Damien's other songs and he is amazing!

Sergey those pictures of yours were so moving..I have never been to NYC but I have been to Chicago, and there are so many photo ops to take of people down there. I've always enjoyed people watching and try to figure out what they are thinking/feeling and your photos totally bring out some emotions. Awesome.

Nehara Seraphine said...

I think the reflection on the sidewalk near the gutter is my favorite. It's really rather beautiful. I like the sepia effect on the last picture, too. It kinda captures the feel of the streets of NYC.

Charyl said...

Haha! I take it you watched the Jib-Jab video. Kind of disturbing, but you've got to admit--the one with Xander was funny. ;-)

Charyl said...

BTW, the photo with the reflection in the sidewalk is amazing!

Nehara Seraphine said...

lol Charyl... yeah, those jib-jab chippendale vids are pretty freaking creepy. lol the one I made a while back takes the cake but I will never post that anywhere lmao! It had Steven Colbert in it hahahaha.

Anyway, in that reflection pic... I guess that's not a gutter, is it? My brain is no good with fetching words today. Not enough sleep--bored at work--not a good combination. This place is stifling my creative energy flow. boooo.

One thing I have always wondered about is if photographers (you) ask the people if you can take their pictures, or if you just take them. Like the homeless man asking for change... did you just snap the picture or ask to take it?

Sammy said...

I love your photos! And Damien Rice is completely amazing.

super_nanny_kel said...

Forgot to mention: Yeah I have read Angels and Demons, it was brilliant, and the movie really dissapointed me..I would have to say Angels and Demons is right up there next to Harry Potter on my list..Can't wait for Half Blood Prince to come out-just two days before my birthday, I will be a happy girl!

Awesome photos! I love your street photos from new york they're so raw. You really capture the feeling you get when you see something beautiful/odd/inspirational while passing by. I think you should really get some of your work up for sale.. What's the dillio?

Megs said...

Great shots Sergey! I really like the effect the photo's coloration has on the overall image. I also think you have improved too lol your photos were always interesting but these new shots just have a different feel, like they're more polished or something. Great job!

Angela said...

Nice color isolation! Always like that effect.

If the reflection picture had a song to it... for some reason I think this would be fitting...

Bon Iver - Flume
http://www.imeem.com/artists/bon_iver/music/ulD6hD43/bon-iver-flume/

Hey, here's a crazy idea... Don't know if it's been suggested before... but it's kind of like the word challenge... What if we come up with a list of songs... and you try to encapsulate the feel of the song through a photograph. Would that be something you'd be game for, Sergey? Hopefully the song list won't suck. lol We could all submit some and maybe you can pick a few... (???)

I think it'd be pretty fun anyway... it would be merging multiple artistic mediums at the same time... which is something I definitely love doing.

What do you think?

White Russian said...

Dani,

I really love candid photography. That is why I prefer to shoot without asking. I guess that is the freedom I have when it comes photography being open to all on public property.

On top of that I feel like the photo that I want to capture changes to something else if I were to approach them and tell my subject that I want to photograph them.

So the photograph of that man was done,...co..ver...tly

White Russian said...

Clover, I am game for that. I think in order for me to set that as my goal and actually do it I would need to set some rules. The 51 word challenge is beast.

So here is what I will do.

The next 10 comments from people can be song suggestions. Lets start submitting the suggestions at midnight tonight EST. Everyone gets one suggestion. No double posting please.

Game on!

Straight to you from the sick, twisted, ingenious mind of Maynard James Keenan… ;)

Puscifer - Rev. 22:20 (Dry Martini Mix)
http://www.imeem.com/people/VR6Mlqu/music/meJUV0y8/puscifer-rev-2220-dry-martini-mix/

(if you actually look up Rev. 22:20 after listening to the song, you’ll know what a nutball Maynard is. LOL). This was tough. I was debating this or Ghost by Legendary Pink Dots but I wanted to be a good girl and follow the rules.

Hey Sergey,
I've never commented here before, but I guess now is a good time to start, ha.

Like other people have said, I really love the puddle reflection photo. It's absolutely gorgeous.

For the song request thing, I think that "Can I Stay?" by Ray LaMontagne would be a good one to try. :)

(If that doesn't work...Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen?)

JokerQuinn said...

Polly - Nirvana

or

You Know You're Right - Nirvana

I'm not sure if you listen to Nirvana or not, so you might need to look up the meanings to the songs to see if you want to do one of them. They are pretty dark in my opinion, and I would love to see you do some dark photography. I think you would be great at it.

White Russian said...

Thanks for the song suggestions.

Just a reminder, one song suggestion per comment.

Rebecca, JokerQuinn, narrow it down for me. Which song do you want to put on the list.

Thanks everyone for pushing my photography spirit.

Rebecca said...

Whoops. I'd like the first one on the list (Can I Stay?).
I thought that was implied.
Sorry!

Woah, these are amazing Serge, really. The man with the Obama sign..that really struck something in me.

wonderful job, keep at it!

ncchapman said...

I think I'm going to go with my current favorite song "Expo '86" by Death Cab for Cutie.

I think it's full of vibrant imagery. PS MissClover i love your song choice.

JokerQuinn said...

Hmmm, I suppose I would really like you to do You Know You're Right by Nirvana.

Nehara Seraphine said...

lol thanks. :)
I was thinking after I posted it that some people might not get it or it would be offensive/too hard to do a photo of... but a little challenge is the spice of life. What's more important is the visual imagery and color created by the music more than what the lyrics are saying. I was really considering the song The Carnival is Over by Dead Can Dance, cuz that's really beautiful but Puscifer was my final choice. lol.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, here's that song, but I'm still going with Puscifer for the photo.

Wow, I really love the angles and colors on the pics. I especially like the one with the petals and the scene reflected in the puddle. It's surreal-looking; I just can't pull away.

Sorry if this is waaaay late but I just saw you answered my question =]. So when you take candid pictures, do you just go right up and take it? I feel like that's where I'm lacking the balls to do it (besides being a girl and all ;]) because I'd feel weird walking up to someone, pointing my camera, focusing etc. and then taking their picture. Don't they ever say anything?
