Hey Guys,
Anyone remember those choose your own adventure novels? You read up to a certain point and you get a couple of choices. Somehow I always stumbled upon the ending where I would die. Then because I skipped to the middle of the book to make my choice, I would lose the the page I was on. Somehow I thought it wasn't fair that the writer didn't prolong the boring ending.
"You decided to skip out on the adventure to find the ancient temple with your friend Rick. Rick went on the adventure to come back a hero. He is now offered a movie and book deal that is close to 23.5 million dollars. You have to apply for a job because your parents are kicking you out of the basement.
If you choose to work at a fast food restaurant, turn to page 34.
If you choose to apply at the law firm, turn to page 56.
"You decided to apply at the law firm. When you arrived to your job interview you saw that you were competing against four recently graduated college students who have much more experience then you do. You sit next to Sally. She is trying to get a job so that she can pay for college. She tells you that she this is her second job she is applying for, as her first job will not cover monthly tuition loan repayments for her. You guys make small chit chat about the economy. Your mind starts to wander on how she looks naked and as you are about to ask her for her number, the boss calls you into the interview."
If you choose to lie about your resume, turn to page 43.
If you choose to tell the truth, turn to page 29.
Well lets try something....You are surfing the internet when you stumble upon an interesting blog. You notice that there are numerous links on this blog, and the writer, for some crazy reason decides to write some choose your own adventure nonsense. Upon closer examination you see the following:
click here if you want to feed the world...
click here if you want to save a child's life...
Well no matter what you clicked, as long as you clicked, you are a hero.
In photography news, I submitted some photos to editors from photography magazines. My hope is that I could write some articles. I feel like I could inject new blood into them. Not literally though; that would be gross.
Click me to check out the portfolio. Comments would always be appreciated.
And speaking of comments. Remember guys, I write things for many reasons...for laughs, to strike conversations, to share with you my passion for photography...
But don't ever feel scared of voicing your opinions. The whole black and white photo thing was a joke with some truth. I am glad to see that some people were stirred by that. There are some amazing black and white photographs out there, but likewise there are also some people who overly abuse the black and white feature in order to create artistic photographs. I won't lie, I use that sometimes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I still have a long way to go before I can teach people photography, and I am thankful for that. Life would be very boring for me if I was great photographer right now.
Now if you will excuse me, this photography gangster is off to unwind with an episode of the Office.
All the best,
Serg

Wow! How awesome! Now, I can search the internet and give money to whatever I want to give to. I will be doing that daily! Thank you for sharing!
My family sponsors a young nine year old boy from Peru and he will draw us pictures and write us letters once or twice a month. (Look up compassion international) He is always so happy with so little...
Switching topics to photography, I am excited to say that I am not longer using my parents Canon! I bought a used Canon Rebel DS6041 on Ebay and it came with three wonderful lenses. Now I am trying to learn about the different features and how to use the camera to it's fullest extent...
What type of photo program do you have or use?
Your portfolio looks great! It is very professional and organized!
(Gezz, I hope you do not get an e-mail every time someone leaves a comment... =/ I can't seem to find an edit button for the comments so I had to delete it a couple times to add and fix a few things... )
Awesome portfolio. Nice & varied; displays your flexibility as an artist.
I hear you on the b&w (sepia) thing. I tend to keep my b&w's with portraits, and even then it still feels like the photo loses something.
The only exception being color accents which are so much fun it should be illegal.
sorry, i'm not familiar with those books...and kudos to you for being positive and making a difference. you are a natural advocate, something this social worker loves to see. i was wondering where you were going with that catchy opening.
i love the pictures, especially the first two. they are very striking and unique. and i'm a huge fan of using the mirror to take a picture. nice work serg.
happy friday!

I so remember reading those books, well actually books like them. I feel old now, i havent read those type of books since grade school and middle school.
I loved those books!! You never knew what your choice would bring, kind of prepares you for life, in a way. haha
As for the pictures, amazing as always. You have a great talent. I can't wait for your future articles.
ps The Office is pretty much one of the best comedies out there, but you already knew that
"You decide to surf the 'net because your housemate decided to get up early to go Christmas shopping and she is hogging the bathroom. You stumble upon a blog by some Russian photographer guy who has some Click Me stuff in different coloured font. You click and ...see some very cool photographs. Go to Comments to tell him what you think. Go to MySpace to see what nonsense people are spewing. Whoa! I made the right choice for once!!! (and for the record, I always ended up on the losing end of those boring books and decided to write my own.)
Very nice photos, Serg. I especially like the one of Ryan in foggy Linesville PA standing alone with the police car lurking on the side street. Looks like my hometown (suburb of Erie)....and the ones of Heather and Josh are nice candids.
Kudos to you for applying to the magazines. Everyone will say it's a tough field to break into, but ya know, not saying this to suck up, but I think you have some major talent and would love to see your work out there for the public to enjoy.
Stay warm....have some hot chocolate and chill out, but keep the lens ready. (btw, it's lin not anonymous)
I awoke an hour before the alarm was set to go off and decided I was wide awake so I loudly announced "I'm awake!" which stirred not only my snoring roomie down the hall but also my ring-tail tabby. I later find, as I am srfing the Web and come upon some Russian dude's blog, that said roomie claims I was hogging said bathroom. I then used the Web to protest b/c I had spent more than ample time deciding what to wear when we go shopping. If she's not careful I'll take my workout clothes and make her drive to the school where I teach--we're off today--so I can use the weight room! Blah, so there!
Seriously...am I actually a hero b/c I go here http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=3 every day and click some buttons? Is saving an animal or feeding a child or providing a free mammogram or saiving a corner of the rain forest REALLY as easy as clicking a hyperlink on a Web page? I find it both meaningful and incongruous, but I do it every day.
The photos...Serg, I could stare at this round of photos all day long! I don't know where to start, I love them all! Yes, the same compliments--you have a great eye, you also have a great imagination! And yes, Linesville isn't that far from us, we skipped a chance to go to a "ghost talk" at the Knickerbocker right before Thanksgiving b/c of the bad weather. Of course these ghost tours and talks attract these people who think getting a few dust orbs in shome photos means they've found and collected evidence of ghosts. Yes, I heard a few of them talk like that over the summer when we went to the Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs. I had to bite my tongue to keep from giving them a lecture. Oh gee, I sure got off track, I was talking about your new photos. This new batch is such an inside look at the team and being on location, and that's only a part of what makes them so amazing. Alas, I must move on but I'll be back! More photo comments to come, Serg! PS--I'm bringing my new digital to UnivCon in the fall; can I follow you around and take photos with you? OK...kidding....kind of...
peace out
Debs
I just wanted to say thanks, you put a pinhole of light and clarity in my world of ever looming darkness.

I'm quite impressed with your viewbook Sergey! Was the photo of Elfie inspired by the photographers work you sent me a while back?
It's quite interesting :) My favorite from the batch is the 2nd photo, the one of Ryan.. I'm also quite drawn to the image of the person standing in the street with the police car off to the left.. something about it reminds me of the old Exorcist movie posters lol.
Wow Serg, that was a deep blog. ANd I still have one of those books, it's a Goosebumps books about the mummy that is alive. I've read it so many times i know how to stay alive. But it's still so fun when you live after all the times you've died. I've always wanted to sponser a child from Northern Uganda, as i've always been amazing with Uganda and it's history. I love all the photos in the portfolio.
Love Wentz.
xoxo
LOVED those books. i used to spend hours in my school's library reading those. there were some similar ones called like time machine or something. now those were really cool, because it was a surprising adventure & a history lesson all in one. i bought one at borders a while ago but it turned out that they "updated" the stories & i was disappointed enough to bring it back to borders.
You know what's really cool. Black and white photos with a touch of color. When done right it's a wicked beautiful picture.
ps your photos are beautiful.
omg i <3 all ur photos in ur viewbook!!! especially the one of eilfie on the broomstick & all of ryan's!!!
I think some of them are very amazing but some still need alot of work with them. It's like they mean nothing.
I think Black and white is awesome because it show things better then color. I started with black and white in the darkroom. Serg, if you never used the darkroom one day you should. It's just the best thing I ever did.
(PS.... I am still working on being a photographer. So I trying not to sound like I know everything because I don't.)
I have to say I am impressed with the photos I really like the one taken from the hole. The angels and lighting, I really like. I am a bit of a photographer myself but I am more in to landscapes animals and kids. If you wont to have a look at some of mine I have them on my my space page just type in my name Jane Brophy the dolphin is me.
I have had a few sold and have printed in tourist guides but I really just do it for the love of it.
HI my name is melody and I wood like to talk to same one about same thing.
You have a very creative aesthetic, and a great eye for composition. What type of camera setup(s) do you use? Keep it up, it will take you far.
