I've picked out these two photos.... shot at West Virginia State Penitentiary while we investigated for the episode titled, "Darkness Falls." Been thinking about creating a photo book themed around this location. This was definitely one of my most memorable investigations.

ReplyDeleteA is better. The subject comes out better it in. and the lighting is better.
I choose A. I feel like it has more to say. The way the silhoutte bleeds into her still flesh hand that casts it's own shadow is really interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt also gives the illusion that she is drawing the line on the wall with her finger.
Her silhouette gives a great negative shaped edge to the right side of the image too.
I think even if you took away the symbol it would still be a great image and be able to stand on its own (although maybe not if that alters the artist's content/intent which is most times lost anyway).
Serg, I have to state A to be the best one of the two. B looks like a typical photograph, while A says to me that there is a story here. I look at this picture and want to hear its story. Serg, if you release an actual photobook, I would love to get it. I am still wanting to get "Mirrored Worlds" - Kyle

ReplyDeleteA. She seems "entranced" by something (maybe the pentagram on the wall?) and you definitely want to know what is so engaging about the location.

ReplyDeleteit gives u some feelings.. picture B for me is just a pretty picture..
I'm going with A. It feels like its a much more 'complete' picture. B would have been my choice if there wasn't the white spots on Elfie, and you could see her just a little bit more like in Photo A. Love the grainyness of photo B.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely A. There is a more "rhythm" and movement in this photo with the dark and light shapes. There is also more interest in the light areas with the drawing of the pentagram.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually a fan of dark pictures like B (when all you can see is the silhouette), but I actually prefer A because it's darker in mood. The position of Elfie's hand, the way the light hits the wall to show the pentagram. But what I love the most, is how the light hits Elfie's face just enough so you could see her expression in the darkness. The picture has an air of darkness & mystery, which I think is very fitting for this place. B on the other hand is lighthearted--- although Elfie is shrouded in the darkness, you can tell she is smiling.
ReplyDeleteI personally like A better. To me it shows the subject better and shows something that could possibly torment a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteI want to like 'B' but the grain filter distracts me from the natural texture of wall and tiles. 'A' is very appealing. I love the tones and detail on the wall but the hot spot in the middle of the image is slightly distracting.
