The trips are over and I am back in State College. Now that I am back at home, I can get to work on some projects that were left on the back burner. Sucks when I have to do that...

This talk reminded me of binaural beats.

I've been thinking about trying binaural for awhile; even got a CD and listening equipment for it. Just haven't had the time to do it. Let us know what you think if you try it. A part of my daughter's autism/speech treatment was a specialized listening program that was intended to activate certain parts of her brain--similar to binaural. Not sure if it had much of an effect, but it's an interesting concept. Some people apparently have had amazing results with it.

Wow, I like TED Tuesday today. Very interesting, and it didn't make my head hurt. I work in an open air office and I can pretty much confirm I am stressed out all day long from listening to people yapping. I guess I will just have to listen to birds chirping for the remainder 12 hours I am not at work to balance it all out.

ReplyDelete"Sound" has always been an issue throughout my life. Since I am hard of hearing, it has caused me to pay a lot more attention to my world around me. Especially with people.
ReplyDeleteBut also it is a blessing at times in noisy places. I can tune things out or people out if I choose to-hehe.
But it's interesting because there are times when a sound is too sensitive for me..I don't know how to explain it, but some loud noises are so deafening to me and those who have normal hearing don't seem to be bothered by it at all..I don't understand it.
An example of how "sounds" can influence our thinking. If you're going into a haunted house next weekend, just listen to the sounds in background, and how it reflects your thoughts and emotions. How it triggers some scary thought or deep fear that you may have.
Then pay attention to how you react to it, even though it's not really happening. :-)
Charyl, how long does it take to sit through one session? Yea, I am thinking of experimenting with it. I need to put some thought in it as to which one I want to try and how I am gonna record results.

ReplyDeleteActually, I'd never heard about it until reading your post. Now I can add that to my ever-growing list of things I'm interested in trying out. I have been through similar "tests" if that is what you want to call it. Simply by playing a sound and monitoring how people's emotions, feelings, or moods change with it. It's really interesting to see the results and compare them. If you try it, please let us know how it went!

It's the one entitled Aldebaran (3-D Sounds)--in addition to headphones with the capacity to play higher/lower frequencies than normal headphones (can't remember the model at the moment). If you're asking about my daughter's listening program, here is the link to that:

It's only authorized to be provided by trained therapists (it's definitely not cheap!). It's been awhile, but I believe she was prescribed to listen to it wearing the headphones 2 or 3 times a day, about 30 minutes at a time for 18 weeks or so.
